The 6 Best TVs For PS5 - Fall 2023 Reviews

Updated
Best PS5 TVs

A few great options are available if you're looking for the best gaming TV for PS5. The PS5 supports higher resolutions and faster refresh rates than the PS4, like 4k @ 120Hz. It supports HDMI 2.1 bandwidth, so TVs with HDMI 2.1 support can fully take advantage of the PS5's capabilities. Sony released firmware updates that added variable refresh rate (VRR) and 1440p support to the console, so you'll also want to get a TV with HDMI Forum VRR support to reduce tearing while gaming.

We've bought and tested more than 405 TVs, and below are our recommendations for the best gaming TV for PS5 that you can buy. Also, see our picks for the best gaming TVs, the best 4k TVs, and the best movie TVs. You can also vote on which ones you want us to buy and test. 1. Best TV For PS5

The best TV for PS5 that we've tested is the Samsung S90C OLED. It's a fantastic TV that delivers an incredible gaming experience. Fast-paced action games look incredible thanks to the nearly instantaneous response time, so there's almost no noticeable blur or ghosting behind fast-moving objects. Its input lag is extremely low, which makes for extremely responsive gaming. It's bright and colorful in HDR and SDR, so your games look great, especially in a dark room. Due to its HDMI 2.1 bandwidth ports, the TV can take full advantage of everything the PS5 offers, including 4k @ 120Hz gaming in games that support it. If you're also a PC gamer, the S90C can reach 4k @ 144Hz on all its HDMI ports.

If you'd like a TV that is part of Sony's 'Perfect for PS5' lineup, which includes a few Sony-exclusive features designed for PS5 gamers, look up the more expensive Sony A95K OLED. It has Auto HDR Tone Mapping, which automatically optimizes the HDR settings for your TV, ensuring you get the best HDR experience possible without manually playing with the settings. However, it has worse input lag than the Samsung model, so gaming isn't as responsive. If you'd rather save a buck, the Samsung S95B OLED is getting harder to find, but it's still available and cheaper than the S90C while almost as good.

  2. Best Bright Room TV For PS5

The Samsung QN90C/QN90CD QLED is the best TV for PS5 we've tested if you prefer to game in a bright room. It features a Mini LED backlight that allows it to get extremely bright, and combined with its great local dimming feature, HDR content stands out incredibly well. It looks amazing in a dark room, although not as much as the Samsung S90C OLED, as there's more noticeable blooming around bright objects, and blacks aren't as deep. However, it's still an excellent TV with a great selection of features, so there's something for everyone.

It has a 120Hz panel with HDMI 2.1 bandwidth on all four HDMI ports, meaning you can play 4k games up to 120 fps on the PS5 and a few other HDMI 2.1 devices, like other consoles or a gaming PC. It has HDMI Forum VRR support, which works well with the console. Games feel quick and responsive thanks to the quick response time, extremely low input lag, and excellent motion handling. This TV's predecessor, the Samsung QN90B QLED, is similar overall but is becoming increasingly hard to find as its stock runs out. If you find it cheaper than the newer model, it's a good value.

  3. Best Upper Mid-Range TV For PS5

The best upper mid-range TV we've tested is the LG C2 OLED. It's a premium TV that delivers stunning picture quality. Thanks to its near-infinite contrast ratio, there's no blooming around bright objects, and it has dark, inky blacks. It truly looks fantastic in dark rooms when gaming. That said, while it gets bright enough to fight glare even in moderately-lit rooms and has incredible reflection handling, it doesn't use quantum dot technology. This means that colors aren't as bright as the Samsung S90C OLED or Samsung QN90C/QN90CD QLED. However, it delivers incredible gaming performance with a nearly instantaneous response time, resulting in crystal-clear motion with no distracting blur behind fast-moving objects.

It's also packed with gaming features, including full HDMI 2.1 bandwidth support on all four inputs, meaning you can take full advantage of your PS5 while having a bunch of other HDMI 2.1 connected. The TV even supports Dolby Vision, a nice bonus as some PS5 games use it, although it's still rare. Its successor, the LG C3 OLED, is a bit brighter overall, but for PS5 gamers, it's not worth the sizeable price difference over the C2, especially considering the C3 is in the same price bracket as the S90C. However, if you also want to watch movies on your console, the newer model has the edge with its DTS audio format support and better image processing.

  4. Best Mid-Range TV For PS5

The Hisense U8K is the best 4k TV for PS5 in the mid-range category that we've tested. It's an amazing TV for PS5 gamers thanks to its superbly low input lag and fast response time. This results in clear motion and a responsive gaming experience, ensuring your movements remain in sync with what you see on the screen. Two of its four HDMI ports have HDMI 2.1 bandwidth, so you can take full advantage of the PS5 and another console, which is great if you also have an Xbox Series S|X. Plus, it supports a variable refresh rate of up to 120Hz from the PS5, which helps to significantly reduce screen tearing.

Of course, stepping down to a mid-range TV has a few drawbacks. The Hisense has worse motion handling than the Samsung QN90C/QN90CD QLED and the Samsung S90C OLED, so it's not as good for competitive gamers who are more sensitive to ghosting and motion blur. With VRR enabled, the Hisense's response time performance noticeably shifts as the TV's refresh rate hovers around 100Hz. But more importantly, it's a buggier TV than the Samsung or the LG. Overall, it's a great performer, but it's not as dependable as the more expensive models.

  5. Best Budget TV For PS5

If you're a price-conscious PS5 gamer, and the Hisense U8K is a bit too pricey for you, yet you still want a great experience, the best TV for PlayStation 5 that you can get is the TCL 5 Series/S555 2022 QLED. It's an impressive TV for gaming thanks to its low input lag and fast response time, resulting in a responsive gaming experience and clear motion, with very little blur behind fast-moving objects. It's compatible with the PS5's variable refresh rate feature, but unlike the Hisense, you're limited to a 60Hz refresh rate. This makes it better suited for the quality mode of your favorite games.

Still, it delivers great picture quality when gaming on the PS5. It looks great in a dark room thanks to its superb native contrast ratio and decent local dimming feature, so bright highlights stand out well with minimal blooming, and blacks remain deep and uniform. It also gets bright enough to overcome glare and has decent reflection handling, so it's an equally good choice for a bright room. However, it has a narrow viewing angle, so it's not the best choice for party games with a large group of friends, as anyone sitting to the side will see a faded image.

  6. Best Cheap TV For PS5

If you're looking for the best PS5 TV at the lowest price possible, consider the Hisense A65K. It's one of the only TVs in its price range that supports variable refresh rate technology, which helps reduce tearing when your game's frame rate fluctuates, but it's limited to 60Hz. It has fantastic low input lag, so your actions are in sync with the action on-screen. Its response time is good for casual gamers or more cinematic games, but there's a bit of blur with fast-moving content.

It doesn't get very bright, but luckily, it has good reflection handling, so it's well-suited for a moderately-lit room. Its contrast ratio is decent, so it looks fine in dark rooms, but it lacks a local dimming feature to improve its contrast. However, it's a surprisingly colorful TV for a cheap model, thanks to its PFS Phosphor panel. The A65K is a better TV overall than its predecessor, the Hisense A6H, but the newer model has a significantly worse viewing angle. Still, unless the viewing angle is important to you, go for the newer model.

Notable Mentions

  • LG G3 OLED: The LG G3 OLED is very bright and a great PS5 gaming TV. However, its high brightness isn't that noticeable in actual usage compared to the cheaper Samsung S90C OLED, and the Samsung has a wider color gamut with more vibrant colors, so it often looks better. See our review
  • Samsung S95C OLED: The Samsung S95C OLED is Samsung's 2023 OLED flagship and is a truly tremendous gaming TV. It's a bit brighter than the Samsung S90C OLED but also significantly more expensive, so the S90C is the better deal for most people. However, if you're looking for the best PS5 gaming TV, no matter the cost, the S95C is it. See our review
  • TCL QM8/QM850G QLED: The TCL QM8/QM850G QLED is an incredibly bright and colorful gaming TV that will light up your gaming cave. However, some significant bugs and quirks keep it from making our list. In particular, the TV uses refresh rate 'brackets' where the TV's refresh rate performance varies dramatically as the frame rate goes up and down. It harms the PS5's VRR capabilities, as you need to lock the frame rate to avoid encountering the TV's poor refresh rate performance. See our review
  • TCL Q7/Q750G QLED: The TCL Q7/Q750G QLED is a great lower mid-range TV with tons of gaming features. However, the Hisense U8K is significantly better for a bit more money, and the TCL 5 Series/S555 2022 QLED is almost as good but actually costs less. See our review
  • TCL Q6/Q650G QLED: The TCL Q6/Q650G QLED is a great budget TV that can do 4k @ 120Hz with resolution halving, a great feature to have on a TV at this price point. Unfortunately, it's sold for a similar price to the generally better TCL 5 Series/S555 2022 QLED, and the Hisense A65K is much cheaper and almost as good. If you want 120Hz at the cheapest price possible, consider the Q6. See our review
  • Sony X93L/X93CL: The Sony X93L/X93CL is sold for the same price as the Samsung QN90C/QN90CD QLED and is a great gaming TV. However, it's not as bright as the Samsung, is limited to only two HDMI 2.1 ports (with one of them being the eARC port), and its input lag is slightly higher. Its response time is also significantly worse than the Samsung in dark scene transitions, so dark games like those in the horror genre don't look nearly as good on the Sony. See our review
