The 3 Best TVs Under $300 - Fall 2023 Reviews

Updated
Best TVs Under $300

Most big TV companies focus on making the best top-of-the-line TVs, and they're starting to stray away from making cheap entry-level TVs. Some companies still do, and you can find an okay 4k TV for under $300, but it won't have many features, the picture quality won't be anything special, and they'll usually be available in smaller sizes. These are good to have as secondary TVs in bedrooms or kitchens but aren't ideal as your main TV for watching 4k movies or playing games.

We've bought and tested more than 400 TVs, and below, you'll find our picks for the best TVs under $300 that are available for purchase. If your budget is a bit more flexible, see our recommendations for the best smart TVs, the best budget TVs, and the best TVs under $500. Brands have been releasing their 2023 lineups, so vote on which ones you want us to buy and test. To learn more about the 2023 models, check out our 2023 TV lineup page.

  1. Best TV Under $300

The Hisense U6H is the best TV under $300. Its 50-inch model, the 50U6H, is available for less than $300, and the 55-inch isn't that much more if you want something bigger. It's a good TV overall, with great picture quality that looks fantastic in a dark room thanks to its great contrast ratio and good black uniformity, with no distracting blooming around bright areas of the screen. It also has a local dimming feature that helps improve its contrast further, which is great at this price point. It has good reflection handling, so it can also handle a bit of glare if you have a few windows or keep the lights on, but it's not very bright.

It's a colorful TV due to its wide color gamut and good color volume. It's also extremely accurate without needing to be calibrated. It even has decent upscaling capabilities. The Hisense has some gaming features, like VRR support and superbly low input lag. It runs the Google TV smart interface, which has a great selection of streaming channels, so you can easily find your favorite shows. We're currently testing this TV's successor, the Hisense U6K, so stay tuned to see how both TVs compare.

  2. Best Value TV For Under $300

While the Hisense U6H is the best TV you can get for under $300, the best overall value TV for under $300 is the Hisense A65K. At this price point, you can get the 43, 50, and 55-inch models, and if you're willing to stretch your budget a tiny bit, the 65-inch is just a bit more expensive. It delivers worse picture quality than the U6H as it lacks a local dimming feature to improve its contrast. It's also dimmer in HDR and SDR, so it isn't as good in well-lit rooms, and highlights don't pop as much. However, the cheaper Hisense does have a faster response time, so there's less blur in fast action than on its more expensive counterpart.

Otherwise, it comes with version 11 of the Google TV smart OS, with its great app store and wide variety of streaming apps. Its remote has a built-in mic for voice control. It has no trouble upscaling lower-resolution content, and its color accuracy is excellent, even without calibration. It has good gaming features, with very low input lag and even VRR support, which is great at this price point.

  3. Best Kitchen TV Under $300

If you want a small kitchen or guest bedroom TV, a 32-inch model like the TCL 32S327 is a good choice. It's a rather simple TV with a 1080p resolution on the S327 variant, but make sure you get that model, not the S325 one with a lower 720p resolution. It's a decent TV for streaming content as it comes with Roku TV built-in, which has a ton of apps available to download, and you won't have to connect external boxes to watch your favorite content.

It has no trouble upscaling lower-resolution content, which is important if you watch cable TV. It also has excellent out-of-the-box accuracy, so you get accurate colors without any calibration, which is great because you can't calibrate the TV. As this is an entry-level 1080p TV, there are a few downfalls, like the fact that it doesn't support HDR and its overall picture quality isn't the best, but it's fine for watching your favorite cooking shows while making lunches or preparing supper.

Notable Mentions

  • TCL 4 Series/S455 2022: The TCL 4 Series/S455 2022 is a good low-cost TV; its 43, 50, and 55-inch models are just under $300, and its 65-inch model is just a bit more. Still, you can find the Hisense A65K for a similar price, and it's better overall than the TCL. See our review
  • Samsung CU7000/CU7000D: The Samsung CU7000/CU7000D is a well-priced Samsung TV, and you can find its 43-inch model for under $300 or consider its 50-inch and 55-inch models for just a bit more. However, the Hisense U6H and Hisense A65K are cheaper and better overall than the Samsung. See our review

Our recommendations above are what we think are currently the best TVs under $300 to buy for most people. We factor in the price (a cheaper TV wins over a pricier one if the difference isn't worth it), feedback from our visitors, and availability (no TVs that are difficult to find or almost out of stock everywhere).

If you would like to do the work of choosing yourself, here is the list of all our reviews of TVs available under $300. Be careful not to get too caught up in the details. While no TV is perfect, most TVs are great enough to please almost everyone, and the differences are often not noticeable unless you really look for them.
