The Dyson Cyclone V10 is a versatile cordless stick vacuum. It sits near the middle of Dyson's lineup of cordless stick vacuums, with a higher-capacity dustbin, more powerful motor, and longer-lasting battery than the Dyson V8. However, it isn't as powerful as the pricier Dyson V11 or Dyson V15 Detect, and it lacks the automatic power adjustment feature found on the latter two vacuums.

Our Verdict

N/A Bare Floor

The Dyson Cyclone V10 is great for vacuuming bare floors. It clears pet hair as well as small and bulky debris with very little difficulty. Its lightweight construction also makes it very maneuverable, and it comes with a pretty wide assortment of tools and accessories. On the downside, it doesn't feel very sturdily built. There are also a lot of parts that need regular cleaning. Thankfully, its bagless design and washable filters result in a near-total absence of recurring costs.

Pros
  • Cleans up all pet hair across surface types.
  • Easily picks up small and large debris.
  • Good maneuverability.
Cons
  • Somewhat fragile build quality in places.
  • Has many parts that need regular cleaning.
N/A Low-Pile Carpet

The Dyson Cyclone V10 is a great option for low-pile carpet. It does a fantastic job of sucking up pet hair and clears an impressive amount of fine debris and larger material. Its bagless design and washable HEPA filter also keep recurring costs to a minimum. Some components feel a little flimsy, and several parts need regular cleaning.

Pros
  • Cleans up all pet hair across surface types.
  • Picks up most small and large debris on carpeted surfaces.
  • Good maneuverability.
Cons
  • Somewhat fragile build quality in places.
  • Has many parts that need regular cleaning.
N/A High-Pile Carpet

The Dyson Cyclone V10 is good for high-pile carpet. While it struggles a little bit with fine debris and larger material on this surface type, it still manages to clear pet hair without an issue. It also comes with a wide variety of tools and accessories. On the downside, its mainly plastic construction doesn't feel all that solid. There are also quite a few parts that need regular cleaning, but as long as it's maintained regularly, recurring costs won't be a worry.

Pros
  • Cleans up all pet hair across surface types.
  • Picks up most small and large debris on carpeted surfaces.
  • Good maneuverability.
Cons
  • Somewhat fragile build quality in places.
  • Has many parts that need regular cleaning.
N/A Pets

The Dyson Cyclone V10 is a very good option for dealing with pet hair. It easily clears pet hair from a wide variety of surface types, while its handheld configuration makes it easy to clean pet beds. Its washable HEPA filter also traps allergens as you clean, which is good if you have a heavily shedding pet. You can also remove the brushrolls from its turbo brush as well as its bare floor and carpet vacuum heads, allowing for easier removal of tangled hair. However, there are still quite a few parts that need regular cleaning.

Pros
  • Good maneuverability.
  • Has a HEPA filter.
  • Removable brushrolls.
Cons
  • Somewhat fragile build quality in places.
  • Has many parts that need regular cleaning.
N/A Stairs

The Dyson Cyclone V10 is excellent for vacuuming stairs. Its lightweight design makes it easy to carry up and down long flights of stairs, and you can easily reconfigure it into a handheld vacuum for tackling tighter spots. It does an outstanding job of clearing debris on bare floors and offers impressive performance overall on carpets. However, it isn't the sturdiest option available, with some parts feeling as though they could crack if dropped.

Pros
  • Cleans up all pet hair across surface types.
  • Easily picks up small and large debris.
  • Can be configured into a handheld vacuum.
  • Comes with a lot of tools and brushes.
  • Good maneuverability.
Cons
  • Somewhat fragile build quality in places.
  • Has many parts that need regular cleaning.
  • No onboard tool storage.
N/A Cars

The Dyson Cyclone V10 is a great choice for cleaning the inside of your car. It can easily be reconfigured into a compact cordless vacuum and comes with a very wide assortment of tools that can help you clear debris in hard-to-reach areas, including a crevice tool and a turbo brush. In addition, since it's cordless, you don't need to worry about parking your car close to an electrical outlet while vacuuming it. However, it doesn't feel especially sturdy and lacks any onboard tool storage, so you need to ensure you have everything at hand if you're away from its charging rack.

Pros
  • Picks up most small and large debris on carpeted surfaces.
  • Can be configured into a handheld vacuum.
  • Comes with a lot of tools and brushes.
  • Good maneuverability.
Cons
  • Somewhat fragile build quality in places.
  • Has many parts that need regular cleaning.
  • No onboard tool storage.
N/A Workshop

The Dyson Cyclone V10 is mediocre for workshop cleaning, though this isn't its intended use case. While it excels at dealing with household debris on bare surfaces, it can't handle liquid spills or workshop debris like metal shavings.

Pros
  • Easily picks up small and large debris.
  • Good maneuverability.
Cons
  • Somewhat fragile build quality in places.
  • Has many parts that need regular cleaning.
  • Not suitable for liquid spills.

If you come across a variant of this vacuum that's different from ours, let us know in the discussions, and we'll update our review.

Compared To Other Vacuums

The Dyson Cyclone V10 is a cordless stick/handheld vacuum with a wide variety of tools and brushes to help you get the job done. Compared to similar Dyson vacuums like the Dyson V7 or the Dyson V11, it has generally similar performance on all surface types, although it tends to do just a bit better on bare floors. However, it lacks any onboard storage for its tools and has more parts that require regular cleaning compared to some other Dysons.

If you're looking for an alternative, see our recommendations for the best cordless vacuums, the best hardwood vacuums, and the best lightweight vacuums.

Dyson V15 Detect

The Dyson V15 Detect is a better overall vacuum than the Dyson Cyclone V10. The V15 clears more debris on bare floors, low-pile carpet, and high-pile carpet. It's also easier to store thanks to its included wand clip, which allows you to hang two different tools on the vacuum. Meanwhile, the V10 is lighter and takes much less time to charge despite offering similar overall runtime.

Dyson V8

The Dyson V8 and the Dyson Cyclone V10 are very similar stick/handheld vacuums with a few minor differences. While these two vacuums are very similarly matched in terms of their performance on bare floors as well as carpet, the V8 is a bit lighter and easier to maintain. However, the Cyclone V10 comes with more tools and brushes. Its battery takes a lot less time to charge, and its dirt compartment, while small, can hold slightly more than the V8.

Dyson V11

The Dyson V11 and the Dyson Cyclone V10 are two stick/handheld vacuums with different purposes. The V11 has fewer maintenance requirements, is easy to store, and its dirt compartment holds more debris. The V11 also features a more powerful suction motor, but this doesn't necessarily correlate to real-world performance. While it does do slightly better on high-pile carpet, the V10 offers slightly better performance on bare floors as well as low-pile carpet and comes with more tools and brushes, including a dedicated bare floor soft roller floorhead. The V10's battery charges much faster too.

Dyson Outsize

The Dyson Cyclone V10 and Dyson Outsize each have their advantages, meaning one may suit you better than the other, depending on your needs. The V10 is noticeably lighter, more maneuverable, and delivers superior performance on low-pile carpet. Meanwhile, the Outsize has a larger dirt compartment that doesn't need to be emptied as often and has a longer total battery life thanks to its included second battery. It also has a docking station with room for two accessories and a wand clip that can hold two additional tools, which makes it a bit easier to store.

Samsung Jet 90 Complete

The Samsung Jet 90 Complete is a better vacuum for most uses than the Dyson Cyclone V10. The Samsung has a slightly better performance on bare floors and is much better on high-pile carpets, where it clears more debris like sand and baking soda. It recharges faster and has a manual surface-type adjustment feature. On the other hand, the Dyson vacuum picks up more debris from low-pile carpets and incurs fewer recurring costs.

Shark Rocket Pet Pro

The Shark Rocket Pet Pro is slightly better than the Dyson Cyclone V10 for most uses. The Shark feels better built, has fewer parts that require regular maintenance, is equipped with a surface type adjustment function, is easier to maneuver, and delivers better overall performance on bare floors. Meanwhile, the Dyson is lighter, has a longer maximum battery life, and comes with more tools and accessories.

Dyson V7

The Dyson V7 and the Dyson Cyclone V10 are similar stick/handheld vacuums with a few differences. Thanks to its more powerful suction motor, the Cyclone V10 does a significantly better job on bare floors, and it's a bit better on low-pile carpet. It has a longer battery life and comes with more tools and brushes for more specialized cleaning tasks. The V7, on the other hand, is easier to maintain, it has a slightly bigger dirt compartment, and it's somewhat better on high-pile carpet.

LG CordZero A9 [A916, A916BM]

The LG CordZero A9 is a little better than the Dyson Cyclone V10. The LG  performs better on bare floors and high-pile carpet, especially for fine debris. However, the Dyson incurs virtually no recurring costs and is more effective on low-pile carpet.

Dyson Ball Animal 2 Total Clean/Origin

The Dyson Cyclone V10 and Dyson Ball Animal 2 are differently-designed vacuums intended for distinct uses, meaning one might be a better fit for you, depending on your exact needs. The cordless stick/handheld V10 is much lighter and is a lot more maneuverable. It's also easier to assemble or attach different tools thanks to the use of easy-clip mechanisms. Conversely, the Ball Animal 2 has a virtually indefinite runtime, fewer parts that need regular cleaning, and a vacuum head that automatically changes height to suit different surface types.

Dyson V12 Detect Slim

The Dyson V12 Detect Slim is better than the Dyson Cyclone V10. The V12 has a far more advanced power adjustment function, as it can automatically increase its suction setting when used on carpet or when it detects an area with a high concentration of debris. It also performs slightly better on bare floors, clears away more pet hair on upholstered surfaces, and weighs less, making it easier to maneuver. That said, the V10 does a better job on low-pile carpet and has a bigger dirt compartment that won't need emptying as often.

Samsung Jet 70

The Dyson Cyclone V10 and Samsung Jet 70 each have advantages, meaning one might suit you better than the other, depending on your needs. The Dyson has a longer battery life, comes with a wider array of tools and attachments, is slightly more effective in clearing away debris in cracks and crevices, and has a less unwieldy miniature turbo brush attachment. However, the Samsung charges faster, has fewer parts that need regular cleaning, feels lighter in your hand, and performs better on high-pile carpet.

Tineco PURE ONE S11

The Dyson Cyclone V10 and Tineco PURE ONE S11 each have advantages, meaning one might suit your needs better than the other, depending on your intended use. The Tineco can automatically adjust its suction power in an area with a high concentration of debris, has fewer parts that need periodic cleaning, has a more effective miniature turbo brush attachment, and makes less noise. Conversely, the Dyson charges faster, lasts longer on a charge, and comes with even more tools, like an extendable crevice tool and an extension hose.

Shark Cordless Pet Plus [IZ361H, IZ362H, IZ363HT, UZ365H]

The Dyson Cyclone V10 is better than the Shark Cordless Pet Plus for most uses. The Dyson weighs considerably less, is easier to maneuver, lasts longer on a charge, has a removable brushroll that's easy to clean, and comes with a wider array of attachments. It also exerts a stronger suction force, resulting in superior crevice-cleaning performance. However, the Shark feels sturdier, has a larger dirt compartment, and does a better job of picking up debris on high-pile carpet.

Samsung Jet 60

The Dyson Cyclone V10 is better than the Samsung Jet 60. The Dyson comes with a wider array of attachments, has a longer battery life, and delivers better performance on bare floors and low-pile carpet. Meanwhile, the Samsung has a slightly larger dustbin, weighs a little less, and has fewer parts that need periodic cleaning.

Miele Triflex HX1

The Miele Triflex HX1 and Dyson Cyclone V10 are fairly evenly matched, and you may prefer one over the other depending on your needs. The Miele is better built, easier to maintain, more maneuverable, and performs significantly better on bare floors. Meanwhile, the Dyson has a larger dirt compartment, a slightly longer maximum battery life, and far more tools and accessories.

Dyson Cinetic Big Ball Animal [Animal Pro, Multi Floor]

The Dyson Cinetic Big Ball and Dyson Cyclone V10 are differently-designed vacuums that serve different purposes. The Cinetic is a corded canister vacuum that has a practically unlimited runtime. It's a little easier to maneuver than the V10 and has a larger dirt compartment. Conversely, the V10 is a cordless stick vacuum with a virtually unlimited range. It's a lot lighter, comes with more tools and accessories, and delivers superior performance on all surface types.

Dyson Ball Animal 3 Extra/Complete

The Dyson Cyclone V10 and Dyson Ball Animal 3 are very differently designed vacuums for different uses. The V10 is a cordless stick vacuum better suited to quick clean-up sessions thanks to its lighter, more portable stick/handheld design. Meanwhile, the Ball Animal 3 is a corded upright that can handle big messes far more easily, with a more powerful suction motor, height-adjustable floorhead, and higher-capacity dustbin.

Shark Vertex Pro Lightweight [IZ662H, IZ682H]

The Dyson Cyclone V10 is a little better than the Shark Vertex Pro Lightweight. The Dyson weighs a lot less, is easier to maintain, takes up less room when not in use, charges faster, and comes with a wider assortment of attachments. That said, the Shark feels sturdier, has a larger dustbin, and comes with a flexible wand that makes it easier to clean under tables and chairs.

Shark Vertex Lightweight Cordless [IZ440H, IZ462H, IZ483H]

The Dyson Cyclone V10 and Shark Vertex Lightweight Cordless each have advantages, meaning one may suit you better than the other, depending on your needs. The Dyson is lighter, has a longer maximum battery life, comes with more tools and accessories, and delivers better performance on carpeted floors. Meanwhile, despite being heavier, the Shark is notably easier to maneuver, has fewer parts that require regular maintenance, feels better built, comes with a larger dirt compartment, and performs better on bare floors.

Shark Vertex Pro Powered Lift-Away

The Dyson Cyclone V10 and Shark Vertex Pro Powered Lift-Away are somewhat differently-designed vacuums, each with strengths and weaknesses. The Dyson is a cordless stick vacuum with a lighter, more maneuverable design. It also comes with a wider assortment of tools and is easier to maintain. The Shark trades maneuverability for debris capacity, and it feels better built.

JASHEN V16

The Dyson Cyclone V10 does better in more situations than the JASHEN V16. The Dyson is more effective at picking up all kinds of debris on everything from hardwood floors to shag carpeting, comes with more tools and accessories, and recharges much faster. The JASHEN is a little bit lighter and has fewer parts that require regular maintenance.

Dyson Omni-glide

The Dyson Cyclone V10 is more versatile than the Dyson Omni-glide. The V10 has a larger dustbin, a longer maximum battery life, more tools and accessories, and performs better on bare floors. It can also be used to clean carpeted floors, unlike the Omni-Glide. However, the Omni-Glide is lighter, more maneuverable, and incurs fewer maintenance requirements.

Shark ION F80 Cord-Free MultiFLEX

The Dyson Cyclone V10 is a better vacuum for cleaning carpeted surfaces than the Shark ION F80 Cord-Free MultiFLEX. The Dyson easily picks up more pet hair as well as small and large debris from low to high-pile carpet. It's lighter, its dirt compartment is slightly larger, and it has virtually no recurring costs. It also comes with a lot more tools and brushes than the Shark. However, the Shark is better at cleaning bare floors, it feels better built, and it's easier to maintain. It can also maneuver around a room more easily than the Dyson.

This vacuum's build quality is alright. Like the Dyson V8 and Dyson V7, it's mostly made of plastic but has a lightweight metal wand. Unfortunately, it doesn't feel particularly sturdy in places, especially its clear plastic dirt compartment and flimsy-feeling floorhead wheels. Thankfully, parts clip together easily, making routine maintenance a quick and simple process.

This vacuum has quite a few parts that need regular cleaning. Consider the JASHEN V16 if you want a stick/handheld vacuum with fewer maintenance requirements.

  • Dirt compartment: To remove the dirt compartment, you first need to detach the wand. You can then separate it from the cyclone by pressing the red arrow on the 'spine' of the cyclone. You should empty it whenever you notice that it's full, but be aware that dust and debris can be released into the air when doing so.
  • Lint screen: You can access the lint screen after you remove the dirt compartment. You should clean this screen when necessary by using a damp cloth to remove debris.
  • HEPA filter: The HEPA filter is located on the top of the vacuum and can be unlocked from its housing by twisting it counter-clockwise, which allows you to pull it free. You should wash it once a month with cold water or when the filter maintenance indicator lights up.
  • Motorized head and roller: You can use a coin to unlock the motorized head's side cover, allowing you to slide out the brushroll. You can clean this part whenever there are hair wraps by using scissors or your hands.
  • Soft roller cleaner head: You can access the two brushrolls by removing the side cover on the soft roller cleaning head, which you can unlock with a coin. If there are any hair wraps, you can remove them by hand or with scissors. You can also wash this part with cold water.
  • Turbo brush: Just like the primary vacuum heads, you can remove the miniature brushroll by unlocking the turbo brush's side cover using a coin. You can clean this part by removing hair wraps with scissors or your hands.

Any part washed with water needs to air dry for at least 24 hours before using it again.

The Dyson V10's dirt compartment is okay. Unlike the Dyson V8, its dirt compartment runs parallel with the main body of the vacuum instead of sitting at a 90 degree angle. It makes it easier to empty and gives it a larger capacity than older Dyson stick vacuums, but it's still on the smaller side and needs frequent emptying. Luckily, there's an indicator that lets you know when the compartment's full. Consider the Shark Cordless Pet Plus if you're looking for a cordless stick vacuum with a larger dirt compartment.

This vacuum's battery performance is decent. In its most energy-efficient 'Suction 1' mode and without any attachments fitted in place, it can last just over an hour on a single charge. However, in its high-power 'BOOST' mode with the motorized head fitted in place, it supplies roughly 10 minutes of runtime, so you need to work quickly when dealing with stubborn messes. This vacuum delivers outstanding performance on bare floors. It can pick up small debris like rice without too much difficulty. However, while it can clear most bulky debris like cereal, some of this material can get stuck at the entry point near the head, especially when using the soft brush roll head. This issue also happens with the motorized brush roll, but less frequently. If you prefer a stick vacuum that's even better on bare floors, look into the Shark Rocket Pet Pro.

This vacuum is good on high-pile carpet. The Dyson Cyclone V10 has good suction power at its floorhead. Its soft roller head sits against the contact surface pretty tightly, resulting in a fairly tight seal and strong crevice-cleaning performance. Using it with its multi-surface floorhead, which doesn't create quite as tight a seal, results in the following suction measurements, which are notably lower.

  • Maximum Suction 2.09 inHâ‚‚O (0.52 kPa)
  • Normal Suction 1.20 inHâ‚‚O (0.30 kPa)

This vacuum is somewhat quiet. It's a little louder than alternatives like the Samsung Jet 60, especially when used in its high-power 'Boost' mode with the multi-surface floorhead.

Dyson Cyclone V10 Maneuverability Video Sample

This vacuum has good maneuverability. Thanks to its lightweight design and plastic wheels, it can be easily moved around a room. However, since there's no onboard tool storage, you need to make sure you have the brush you want to use nearby. When cleaning under a couch or table, the filter can get in the way if you're not crouched and can hit your wrist. The vacuum can get stuck on rug tassels, even on its lowest suction power setting. Thankfully, it can easily climb over or onto electrical cables and thick rugs.

Sofa Pickup Post Test

This vacuum is pretty effective for handling pet hair on furniture when used with its miniature turbo brush. While you might need to make one or two extra passes to clear away everything, the attachment is still easier to use than the somewhat unwieldy Mini Motorized Tool that comes with the Samsung Jet 70.

This vacuum does a terrible job of dealing with dried stains, though that isn't a surprise given the lack of any mopping capability.
