The 5 Best TVs For Bright Rooms - Fall 2023 Reviews

Updated
Best TV For Bright Room Viewing

If you plan on placing your TV in a bright room, you should purchase a TV with excellent reflection handling and good brightness levels so that glare from strong light sources, like windows, isn't distracting. Better reflection handling helps reduce the intensity of reflections from bright lights, whether from windows or lamps. High brightness is important to overcome the remaining glare, so you can see the content you're watching and not just a reflection, as if your TV is a mirror.

We've bought and tested more than 390 TVs, and below are our recommendations for the best ones you can buy for a bright room. See our picks for the best TVs for watching movies, the best TVs for watching sports, and the best outdoor TVs. Brands have been releasing their 2023 lineups, so vote on which ones you want us to buy and test. To learn more about the 2023 models, check out our 2023 TV lineup page.

  1. Best TV For Bright Rooms

The best TV for bright room viewing we've tested is the Samsung QN90C/QN90CD QLED. It's a flagship 4k TV from Samsung's 2023 TV lineup, and it's packed with features that make it an excellent choice for a bright room. It uses a Mini LED backlight, a technology that allows the TV to get extremely bright, and combined with its fantastic reflection handling, you won't have any issues using it in a well-lit room, even if you place it opposite a bright window. It's also a fantastic gaming TV, with support for all variable refresh rate (VRR) technologies, low input lag for super responsive gaming, and HDMI 2.1 bandwidth on all its HDMI ports for 4k @ 120Hz gaming, or up to 4k @ 144Hz on its 43" and 50" sizes.

It's also easy to stream your favorite content, like sports and TV shows, as it comes with the 2023 version of Tizen OS built-in. It's an easy-to-use smart platform with many apps available to download, and the included remote has a built-in mic that you can use with the Bixby voice assistant to open your favorite apps and change inputs. It doesn't have the ultra-wide viewing angle of the Samsung QN90B QLED, but it's still decent and doesn't have its predecessor's noticeable rainbow effect with reflections. Still, if you can find the QN90B, it's just as good as the QN90C and has a much wider viewing angle, which is great if you like to watch your TV with lots of people sitting around it.

  2. Best TV For The Outdoors

Although most of these picks focus on TVs for bright indoor rooms, what if you want to watch TV outside? Enter the Samsung The Terrace, the best outdoor TV we've tested. Even if you want to use your TV in an enclosure outside, it's easy for light to get through, so you want something that gets bright enough and minimizes reflections well. This TV is fantastic for that because it's designed for use in direct sunlight, so it's the brightest TV we've tested. The reflection handling is fantastic, meaning it looks amazing in any outdoor setup. It's also a great gaming TV, with HDMI 2.1 bandwidth on one port and low input lag. It doesn't support any variable refresh rate (VRR) technologies, and with only one HDMI 2.1 port, it's limited if you have multiple modern consoles, but it's a great TV to connect your Nintendo Switch to at your BBQ parties.

It's a very well-built TV because it's designed to be left outside as it's advertised to have an IP55 rating for water protection, so you won't have to worry too much if it rains. Thanks to the built-in Tizen smart platform, you won't have to connect an extra box to stream your favorite content, and the built-in speakers are decent enough to use without a soundbar. It's also a lot more expensive than the Samsung QN90C/QN90CD QLED, so unless you plan on using this outdoors, the QN90C is a better choice for most people.

  3. Best Mid-Range TV For Bright Rooms

The best mid-range TV for bright rooms we've tested is the Hisense U8H. It's a great TV for watching shows or sports during the day. Like the Samsung QN90C/QN90CD QLED, it uses Mini LED technology, which allows it to get exceptionally bright to overcome glare, and it has excellent reflection handling. However, it has an even narrower viewing angle than the QN90C, so it's not as good overall, especially if you have a wide seating arrangement, as the image isn't consistent when viewed from the side.

It's also an excellent TV for gaming thanks to its low input lag and fast response time. It has great gaming features, including HDMI 2.1 bandwidth for 4k @ 120Hz gaming on the Xbox Series S|X or the PS5. It runs the Google TV smart interface, which is user-friendly and has a great selection of streaming apps. It also has a great selection of smart features, including hands-free voice control with Google Assistant or Alexa, so you can quickly find your favorite content.

  4. Best Budget TVย For Bright Rooms

The best TV for bright room viewing in the budget category we've tested is the TCL 5 Series/S555 2022 QLED. It's a good TV for a bright room, with impressive peak brightness and decent reflection handling, so it can overcome glare in a moderately lit room. Its semi-gloss coating reduces the intensity of direct reflections well but does cause some smearing, so it's not as good as the Hisense U8H for a room with many windows. It has decent color volume, and colors get bright enough to stand out well, even in fairly bright scenes.

It runs the Roku OS smart interface, which has a great selection of streaming channels, so you can easily find your favorite shows. Its fast response time and low input lag make it a great TV for daytime gaming. It also offers a few great gaming features, including variable refresh rate support to reduce tearing. Still, unlike the more expensive models on this list, it's limited to a 60Hz refresh rate.

  5. Best Cheap TV For Bright Rooms

The best cheap TV for a bright room we've tested is the TCL 4 Series/S455 2022. It's a decent TV with decent reflection handling to help reduce the appearance of glare in a bright room. It has mediocre peak brightness, so it can't take a ton of natural light, but it's still an okay choice for a kitchen or spare bedroom where you won't be watching TV all the time. It delivers incredible picture quality thanks to its fantastic contrast ratio, excellent gradient handling, and good upscaling capabilities.

It comes with Roku OS built-in, which is very fast and easy to use, and it has a good selection of streaming services available, so you can quickly find your favorite content. Unlike the more expensive TVs on this list, it has limited extra features, so it's not the best choice for someone looking for advanced gaming features like HDMI 2.1 bandwidth or variable refresh rate support.

Notable Mentions

  • TCL 6 Series/R655 2022 QLED: The TCL 6 Series/R655 2022 QLED is an impressive TV that looks great in a bright room. It's not quite as bright as the Hisense U8H, though, and it's now hard to get and often more expensive, so the Hisense is more suited for most people. See our review
  • Hisense U6H: The Hisense U6H is a great alternative to the TCL 5 Series/S555 2022 QLED, but it's not as bright and doesn't handle glare as well. See our review
  • LG G3 OLED: The LG G3 OLED is the first OLED bright enough in HDR and SDR to be considered a good bright room TV. While it can't sustain its peak brightness nearly as well as the Samsung QN90C/QN90CD QLED or the Hisense U8H, it's still easily bright enough for a well-lit room. If you're itching to get an OLED but are hesitating due to bright room performance, consider the LG G3 OLED. See our review
  • TCL QM8/QM850G QLED: The TCL QM8/QM850G QLED is an incredibly bright TV, even more so than the Samsung QN90C/QN90CD QLED. Unfortunately, it has an even narrower viewing angle, and it has a lot of quirks to contend with, so it lacks the polish of the Samsung. The QM8 is also more expensive than the Hisense U8H and TCL 6 Series/R655 2022 QLED, so it's not a value pick. See our review

Our recommendations above are what we think are currently the best TVs for bright rooms for most people in each price range. We factor in the price (a cheaper TV wins over a pricier one if the difference isn't worth it), feedback from our visitors, and availability (no TVs that are difficult to find or almost out of stock everywhere).

If you would like to do the work of choosing yourself, here is the list of all our reviews of TVs. Be careful not to get too caught up in the details.
