The 7 Best Monitor Brands - Fall 2023 Reviews

Updated
Best Monitor Brands

When looking for a new monitor, it can be easy to get confused between all the different models, features, and brands. The monitor market is pretty big, and a lot of companies make monitors for a variety of uses, like those for work, gaming, or content creation. While there isn't any brand that's outright better than all other brands, some companies excel in some aspects better than others, like having superior build quality or extra features.

Below is a list of some of the best monitor brands available in the United States, but it isn't an exhaustive list of which brands are better than others, but rather a list to give information on each brand's lineup and what they're good at. There are brands that we haven't mentioned either, but if you want more info on a certain brand, let us know in the forums.

We've bought and tested over 280 monitors, including models from over 25 different brands, and below are our recommendations for the best monitor companies, including the best gaming monitor brands available in the U.S. Also, see our recommendations for the best monitors, the best gaming monitors, and the best office monitors.

  1. Acer

Acer is a Taiwanese computer and electronics hardware company founded in 1976. They offer displays for gamers and those looking for a simple monitor for the office, and they tend to cost less than the competition. Their monitors are also versatile, as you can get a gaming model with good office features, which is great if you work during the day and game at night with your at-home setup. Another thing Acer excels at is ergonomics, as most of their models come with an easily-adjustable stand.

Their standard gaming lineup is known as the Nitro lineup, but they have a separate lineup known as Predator that costs more and has fewer models. They have different resolutions and refresh rates available, which is great as they cater to different types of gamers. Something like the Acer Nitro XV282K KVbmiipruzx is a 4k, 144Hz monitor that's great for console gaming, but they also have the Acer Nitro XV252Q Fbmiiprx, which is a 1080p monitor with an incredible 390Hz refresh rate, that's great for PC gaming. Although you can't find dedicated office monitors in these Nitro or Predator lineups, Acer also has a basic lineup that offers simple displays for work, but they don't tend to have a lot of features.

  2. ASUS

ASUS, also known as ASUSTeK, is a computer parts manufacturer founded in Taiwan. They have diverse lineups for different needs, and their popular gaming lineups are the Republic of Gamers (ROG) and TUF Gaming models. While the ROG monitors usually provide the best performance, the TUF Gaming monitors are cheaper, so they're a good choice for those looking for a low-cost gaming monitor.

If you're looking for a monitor from ASUS, you'll have to decide what combination of refresh rate and resolution you need. You can get something like the ASUS ROG Swift 360Hz PG259QN if you want a 360Hz refresh rate and 1080p resolution, or both the ASUS ROG Swift PG279QM and ASUS ROG Swift OLED PG27AQDM offer a 1440p resolution and a 240Hz refresh rate. The ASUS ROG Swift 360Hz PG27AQN is another option combining a 1440p resolution with a 360Hz refresh rate. This is just an example of the different options they have, and even if they don't have as many 4k options as other brands, the ASUS ROG Strix XG27UQR is another great monitor. If you aren't a gamer, they also offer good office options with their ProArt lineup, like the ASUS ProArt Display PA278CV, which provides extra features like a USB hub.

  3. Dell

Dell is an American company that has become one of the most well-known computer brands worldwide. They have a few different monitor lineups, and whether you need something basic for work, a high-resolution screen for photo editing, or if you're a competitive gamer, you'll likely find something interesting from Dell. Their entry-level S and P Series lineups are designed for the home and office, and the higher-end UltraSharp lineup usually has more productivity features. An option like the Dell U2723QE is an impressive choice for work use and content creation. It has a massive USB hub and offers many other features, including an accurate sRGB picture mode. Even the Dell S2722QC and Dell S2721QS are excellent low-cost 4k office displays with fewer features than the U2723QE.

Their Alienware lineup is meant for gaming and includes the high-end Dell Alienware AW3423DW and the Dell Alienware AW3423DWF, which both feature a QD-OLED panel for stunning picture quality. While neither has the highest refresh rate, a few other options are available for competitive gaming, like the 360Hz Dell Alienware AW2523HF or the 500Hz Dell Alienware AW2524H. While they may not have as many gaming options as other brands, they're starting to grow in the gaming market.

  4. Gigabyte

Gigabyte is another computer parts manufacturer based in Taiwan. Although they're less well-known than other brands like Dell or Samsung, their monitors provide good value at a relatively low cost. They have two monitor lineups with their higher-end AORUS lineup and the more affordable standard lineup, which still offers great features. While they design many gaming monitors, they often include office features, so if you're looking for a monitor for your at-home workstation that you can also game with, you'll likely find something good from them.

The M Series monitors, which are part of the standard lineup, have a KVM switch that allows you to switch between two sources easily and use the same keyboard and mouse. The Gigabyte M32U is one of those monitors, and it's a great choice for various uses. It's feature-rich with a 144Hz panel and HDMI 2.1 bandwidth, making it an excellent option for console gaming. Even if you want to use it for work, it has a 4k resolution, fantastic text clarity, and a USB-C port to connect to a compatible laptop. There's also a smaller version, the Gigabyte M27U, which is great if you want something cheaper or simply prefer the smaller screen.

  5. LG

LG is an international electronics company headquartered in South Korea. They offer a ton of monitors, with new models coming out each year. While their UltraGear gaming lineup is popular, they also have a good selection of models for productivity. One advantage LG has is that they produce their own OLED panels, so they've started making OLED monitors like the LG 27GR95QE-B or bigger displays that are almost like small TVs, like the LG 42 OLED Flex or even the ultrawide LG 45GR95QE-B.

These OLEDs are good if you want the best picture quality, but if you're concerned about the risk of burn-in that OLEDs face, they have some great LED monitors available. The LG 32GQ950-B is a versatile LED monitor as its 4k resolution and high pixel density help deliver sharp images, and its HDMI 2.1 bandwidth lets you take full advantage of the Xbox Series X|S and PS5. If you aren't a gamer, they have a few dedicated office monitors, like the LG 40WP95C-W, that offer a high resolution with a large USB hub. Their UltraFine lineup also has other productivity monitors, ranging from 24 to 32 inches, so you can choose from a big selection of displays.

  6. MSI

Like Acer, ASUS, and Gigabyte, MSI is another Taiwanese company that makes a variety of computer products, including monitors. They have a few different gaming lineups and make monitors for content creation productivity. While they have a lot of different lineups, each lineup doesn't have too many different monitors, so MSI monitors aren't as popular as some other brands. However, their models don't cost much either, and they make decent budget gaming options, like the MSI Optix G273, so if you want a low-cost display, you'll likely find something from MSI.

Besides their budget monitors, they still make high-end monitors, like the MSI MEG 342C QD-OLED. It's an ultrawide monitor with the same QD-OLED display as the Dell Alienware AW3423DW, delivering premium picture quality and gaming performance. Even the MSI Optix G321CU is another 4k gaming monitor that costs less than the competition and offers great performance. While MSI isn't the most known monitor manufacturer, some of their displays still offer good value versus the competition.

  7. Samsung

Based in South Korea, Samsung has become one of the world's leading electronic brands and is the main competitor to LG. Their lineup mainly includes monitors with VA panels for great performance in dark rooms. They've even started including Mini LED backlighting on high-end models like the Samsung Odyssey Neo G7 S32BG75 and the Samsung Odyssey Neo G8 S32BG85, further improving the picture quality on those displays. It helps that Samsung already produces TVs with this Mini LED technology, so they've become an industry leader for monitors with it.

Like LG, they've transferred some of their strengths with TVs to monitors. The Samsung Odyssey OLED G9/G95SC S49CG95 and the Samsung Odyssey OLED G8/G85SB S34BG85 are high-end monitors that use the same QD-OLED technology as their premium Samsung S95C TV. This lets them display perfect blacks without any blooming, along with bright and vivid colors. These are good alternatives to the Neo G7 and Neo G8 if you want an OLED screen or are looking for an ultrawide display for PC gaming. On top of their great picture quality, many new Samsung monitors also include their proprietary Tizen OS smart platform, which lets you stream content even without a PC.
