The best 8k TV we've tested is the Samsung QN900B 8k QLED. It's an excellent TV that delivers impressive picture quality, with excellent contrast and very high peak brightness, so it's a great choice for both bright and dark rooms. HDR content looks incredible thanks to its Mini LED local dimming feature, so bright scenes and highlights in HDR content stand out incredibly well. It also has a great wide color gamut with excellent color volume, so vibrant colors look vivid and lifelike.

Although the current-gen consoles don't support 8k gaming, it's also a safe, future-proof investment for gamers hoping to enjoy the latest games at 8k. If you're a PC gamer with an especially beefy computer, you can take full advantage of what this TV offers, especially with the help of a GPU upscaler. Performance-wise, it's a fantastic gaming TV overall. It supports HDMI 2.1 bandwidth on all four HDMI ports, has a superb response time that results in crystal clear motion with little blur, and has exceptional low input lag for a responsive gaming experience.

The best mid-range 8k TV we've tested is the TCL 6 Series/R648 2021 8k QLED. Like the Samsung QN900B, it features a Mini LED backlight that delivers excellent contrast, with deep blacks in dark scenes and very little blooming around bright objects, but it doesn't get as bright. It has an excellent HDR color gamut and good color volume, so the latest HDR content looks vivid and lifelike. It also upscales 4k and 1080p content well, like Blu-rays, but the image is a bit softer than the Samsung and doesn't handle low-resolution content well, like DVDs.

It supports HDMI 2.1 bandwidth for 8k @ 60Hz and 4k @ 120Hz gaming, but only on two ports. It's limiting for some users, as you can only take full advantage of two high-bandwidth devices. It runs the Roku smart interface, which is easy to use and has a great selection of streaming apps, but it's not as polished as the Samsung TV's Tizen OS, and some streaming services aren't available.

Although the cheapest 8k TVs cost more than most people consider budget, some more affordable options are available. The best budget 8k TV we've tested is the Hisense U800GR 8k. It's a similar TV to the TCL 6 Series/R648 2021 8k QLED, running the same Roku TV smart interface and with similar extra features. It has worse picture quality, though, as it can't get as bright, so bright highlights in HDR don't stand out as well. There's also little difference in price between this and the TCL, so most people are better off getting that instead.

Like the TCL, it has an excellent response time, with very little ghosting around fast-moving objects. It also supports HDMI 2.1 bandwidth on two of its HDMI ports, meaning you can take full advantage of the Xbox Series X, PS5, or recent graphics cards like the new 40-series NVIDIA GPUs. Unfortunately, it has much higher input lag with 8k @ 60Hz signals, so overall, it's not as good as the TCL for gaming.
